This is Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg’s fault:

A Louisville-area family is calling for answers after U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents detained a Ugandan woman at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport, and her family says she was denied critical medication for sickle cell disease for more than 24 hours.

Sarafinah Bukirwa arrived in the United States from Uganda in April 2025 with a work authorization and a pending asylum claim. She runs a nonprofit focused on sickle cell disease awareness and has lived with the condition her entire life.

On Tuesday, July 22, her brother Isaac dropped her off at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport. She was traveling to a sickle cell conference in California — one day after being discharged from the hospital following a sickle cell crisis. She never reached her gate.

ICE agents detained her at the airport and transported her to the Grayson County Detention Center in Leitchfield, Kentucky. She had all of her prescribed medications with her at the time of detention.

There is no reason for ICE agents to be in Louisville other than the fact that our Quisling mayor wanted to serve as a fluffer for the festering pile of Orange pus that’s leaking all over the White House.

Greenberg has failed on so many levels, letting a militia of goons harass immigrants who are trying to make a living here and overseeing a disaster of road reconstruction that has left dozens of people in debt for millions of dollars when they destroyed their trucks trying to get through a badly marked low tunnel. Let’s not forget the fact that he’s also selling out a part of the city for the construction of a huge data center that’s going to harm the residents of Southwest Louisville.

I personally don’t think he even cares about the suffering he has caused, as to be expected from a Democratic MAGA wannabe. We can send him letters like this to see if he has any modicum of compassion in his body. (I doubt it.)

I’m writing to express my deep concerns about the 48-hour ICE Hold policy you implemented in July 2025 at the request of President Donald Trump.

You justified abandoning Louisville’s Sanctuary City status by promising it would protect “the most number of immigrants in this community,” and ICE holds would affect less than 100 people per year. Yet, according to jail officials, the number of ICE detainers in the Louisville jail surpassed that number in the first two-and-a-half months of the policy change.   During the past year, the number is more than 400 individuals affected.  

As we reach the first  anniversary  of your reinstatement of ICE Holds, according to LMDC statistics, over four times as many people as you predicted have been turned over to ICE. This policy is directly contributing to the overcrowding of the Louisville jail and several other county jails throughout Kentucky, compromising safety for inmates and staff and resulting in the death of 21-year-old Juan Miguel Munoz Penalver earlier this year inside LMDC.    

It is time to reverse this decision and stand in solidarity with our immigrant neighbors. It is time to push back against the most corrupt administration in our nation’s history, not bend to their every demand. Other cities have maintained their Sanctuary Cities status AND secured victories in court preventing the administration from withholding federal funding.

​In light of these facts, it is no longer justifiable to abandon our immigrant neighbors and assist the federal government’s cruel and unlawful agenda. I ask that you immediately reinstate Louisville’s Sanctuary City status and refuse to cooperate with the 48 Hour federal immigration detainer request.
