This story about parking seems pointless

This appeared in the CJ yesterday. I have no idea why this was even published:

Those traveling during the holiday season may be wondering if they can pull over at state highway rest areas for some shut eye.

In Kentucky, it is allowed — but there are some restrictions on how long you can stay.

Here’s what to know.

Is it legal to sleep at a Kentucky rest area?

Yes. In Kentucky, a person or group is allowed to stay at a rest stop for up to four hours within any 24-hour period, according to 603 KAR 5:040.

Does Walmart allow overnight parking?

There is no official nationwide policy for overnight RV or car parking in Walmart parking lots.

Walmart’s frequently asked questions page says “permission to park is extended by individual store managers, based on availability of parking space and local laws.”

Not to be a stickler on language but doesn’t “rest stop” indicate it’s somewhere you can sleep. Are there rest stops in this country where you’re not allowed to rest? If you can’t rest, shouldn’t it be called a stop stop? A bathroom break?

And where does this Walmart question come from? If overnight parking is allowed at Walmart, is it allowed at Home Depot? What about Target? Why would anyone want to sleep in a Walmart parking lot? Does the company associated with the parking lot matter? What about using a mall parking lot? What’s the point here?

One more thing. If you’re doing a story about rest stops, why isn’t there a link to rest stops in the state, like I’m putting here and here.

The story has no context. Is parking at rest stops up? If so, why? Is this a story on the state of the American economy? Are people without homes living in their cars, so they’re looking at rest stops or parking lots to get some shuteye?

The most annoying thing about this story is that two people wrote it and neither one was able to give basic information about why this is relevant to anything.

Your last sentence summs up the state of all American journalism in a nutshell.
