Another opinion on our cowardly representative

A couple of days ago, we compared the cowardly actions of U.S. Rep. Morgan McGarvey to the bravery shown by Miss Rachel, the host of toddler videos on YouTube.

Finally, today, the CJ has another take on McGarvey’s cowardice:

One does not have to be a genius to know today’s Republicans traffic in lies, told with such rapidity that they’re almost impossible to track. Recently, they sought to paint themselves as free speech champions who fiercely oppose political violence. They cloaked that deception in a U.S. House resolution that depicted the controversial late hyper-conservative champion Charlie Kirk in almost angelic terms. They asked Democrats to join in on the lie. A sorrowful 98 of them, including Democratic leader Hakeem Jefferies and my own representative, Morgan McGarvey, agreed.

The 98 were outnumbered by 118 Democrats who refused the lie. Twenty-two did not vote, 38 voted present and 58 voted outright no. Texas Democrat Jasmine Crockett lamented that 56 of the 58 who voted no were people of color. Others sat idly as the deification of Kirk rocketed to mind-blowing levels. One Republican introduced a bill that would require public universities in red states to build Charlie Kirk memorials. Others compared him to Martin Luther King Jr., a man Kirk labeled as “awful.” Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. went so far as to compare him to Jesus.

The Congressional Black Caucus refused to join in the beatification. Members opined in a statement on Kirk, “We must unequivocally reject violence in all its forms” but simultaneously “strongly disagree with many of the beliefs Charlie Kirk promoted: including his belief that the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which ended racial segregation, was a mistake; his denial that systemic racism exists; his promotion of the Great Replacement theory; and his offensive claims about Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, Michelle Obama, and Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee lacking adequate cognitive ability.”

Ultimately, the CBC saw the resolution, “unfortunately, [as] an attempt to legitimize Kirk’s worldview — a worldview that includes ideas many Americans find racist, harmful, and fundamentally un-American.”

Cowardly reps like McGarvey have no problem insulting the constituents who put them into office and are essentially tools of the authoritarian regime now dominating the nation.

State Republicans have said they’re considering redrawing electoral maps to get rid of the only solid Democratic seat in Kentucky’s U.S. House delegation. We also noted in another post that McGarvey heard this and said nothing.

It’s hard to rally support to save the Democratic seat in this state when the person occupying it gives you no reason to fight for him.
