Be a sport: Here’s what the Ville has to offer.

Gannett keeps putting together “10 best” lists. It’s a cheap way to get content since, according to ChatGPT:

Gannett owns 217 daily and 175 weekly newspapers, as of the end of 2022. This is a reduction from 261 daily and 302 weekly newspapers in 2019.

So why are we talking about this?

Four Louisville attractions are vying for national recognition.

Churchill Down’s Racetrack, Kentucky Derby Museum, Louisville Slugger Museum and the Muhammad Ali Center are all nominees for USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Award for Best Attraction for Sports Fans. The nationwide list includes 20 museums, venues, and iconic sporting destinations selected by USA Today’s expert panel of journalists and editors.

Voting is open now through Monday, Aug. 18, and fans can vote once per day for their favorite attraction by visiting this link.

Louisville is the only city in the country with four attractions nominated, according to a news release from Louisville Tourism.

To be sure, each of these sites are worth visiting, although Churchill Downs Racetrack and the Kentucky Derby Museum should be considered one complete package, since they’re in the same location.

The Muhammad Ali Center is the best offering here, because its focus on an iconic figure, sports and social issues overwhelm the offerings of the other sites.

The Louisville Slugger Museum is worth seeing, but a true baseball fan should go to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y., which is hosting Hall of Fame weekend starting today!

Other states have better sites for other sports. For football, go to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, which is hosting Enshrinement Week from July 31 to Aug. 3. For basketball, the best bet is the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass., with its enshrinement weekend Sept. 5-6.

Anyway, might as well give Gannett its clickbait, even though it pretty much sucks as a news organization. Top 10 lists are so 20th century.
