Courier-Journal strikes out

Let’s see, how to I say this nicely?

The Courier-Journal sucks?

The University of Louisville’s baseball team is ranked No. 18 in the nation. Kind of a no brainer in terms of college baseball interest. This is a team to watch and has a reputation for quality baseball.

They played the UC Berkeley Golden Bears today at Jim Patterson Stadium. Here’s how the results were reported on the Berkeley website.

LOUISVILLE – No. 18 Louisville (20-7, 5-4 ACC) was a 13-6 winner over the California baseball team (15-12, 6-6 ACC) on Sunday in the rubber match of a three-game ACC series at Jim Patterson Stadium. The Golden Bears never led in the contest but did get the tying run to the plate with two outs in the top of the eighth before Dominic Smaldino grounded out to Cardinals’ second baseman Kamau Neighbors to leave the bases full of Bears.

Here’s how it was reported on the UofL Baseball site:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The 18th-ranked University of Louisville baseball team secured a series victory with a 13-6 win over Cal on Sunday at Jim Patterson Stadium.

Louisville (20-7, 5-4) scored in double figures in each game of the weekend, combining for 34 runs on 35 hits in the series.

And here’s the story in the Courier Journal:

(… crickets …)

It is now 7 p.m. in Louisville. The game ended hours ago. The fact that I’m posting a story with a photo (admittedly not a great photo) of the actual game before the C-J has anything up about it on its site is absurd.

No wonder the stadium, which can fit a few thousand, had only a few hundred people in the stands. No one knows these things are happening.

And the price of admission to see one of the best college baseball teams in the nation?

Zero, zilch, nada. I just happened to be walking by the stadium and heard cheering, looked inside and saw a game was going on, asked how much it would cost to go in and the security lady there said “Nothing. You can go in ‘hon.’”

And the local newspaper wonders why no one reads it.
