Here’s a reason to appreciate Neil Young

Let’s mark the day with some news from the music world (via Daily Kos):

President Donald Trump has been strutting onstage to Neil Young’s classic song “Rockin’ in the Free World,” and his obvious aversion to irony could cost him upwards of $10 million.

In a lawsuit filed Monday against the Trump 47 fundraising committee, Young and his legal team not only claim that the president has committed copyright infringement, but that Trump is actively tarnishing Young’s reputation by walking out to the song.

“Rockin’ in the Free World is a blistering anthem that contrasts the hollow promises of American political rhetoric with the harsh realities faced by the poor, homeless and forgotten,” the lawsuit reads.

“The lyrics paint vivid street-level portraits—a mother discarding her baby, addicts lost in despair, garbage in the shadows of prosperity—while the repeated chorus delivers a savage irony, celebrating freedom that clearly isn’t shared by all,” the suit continues.

It’s remarkable that a song being pilfered by the worst president in American history came out during the tenure of the father of the second worst president in American history:

What strikes us is the lack of awareness on Republican musical selection. Ranks up there with Ronald Reagan quoting Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the USA.

It all began with a September 1984 speech: “We’ve come to Hammonton, just as we went to Elizabeth and Hoboken…because you’re what America is all about,” Reagan said. “America’s future rests in the message of hope in the songs of a man so many young Americans admire — New Jersey’s own, Bruce Springsteen.”

His comments echoed conservative columnist George F. Will, who had recently written, “the recitation of closed factories and other problems” in Springsteen’s songs “always seemed punctuated by a grand cheerful affirmation: ‘Born in the U.S.A.!’”

It was off-base, but that didn’t stop Reagan from co-opting Springsteen’s working-class hero image into his “Morning in America” message of national renewal.

What followed was the 1980s version of a viral blowup. The Boss’s Born in the U.S.A. album was on its way to selling 30 million copies. The title track was about a Vietnam vet born “in a dead man’s town / The first kick I took was when I hit the ground.”

Springsteen—and other critics—pointed out that Reagan missed the whole point.

Besides, we also know the Orange Menace has a fetish for hot-looking men. Here he is talking about Ohio Republican Jon Husted, pictured above, with Trump getting off on his bottom. (Also from Daily Kos):

And I made the mistake of saying, that I started off by studying his ass. I just want to say.

And then I looked at his feet and they were massive. Then I looked at his hands, see these hands. These are nice hands, they’re fine. He had fingers like sausages. I looked at his hands. I said, look at it guys.

And then I patted him on the shoulder. I said, “great job, Jon.” He said a few words. I said, great job. And I hurt my hand. It was like I was hitting steel, but I made the mistake of studying his anatomy and explaining it to the audience and the audience loved it. By the way, he went up 12 points that day. He went from being down to being up.

Maybe I should do that with Ken Paxton, but I’m not sure your body is going to qualify. I’m going to do it with Ken. No, but I would say so what happens is so Jon leaves. I told us everybody had fun, you know, but the people appreciate it because they didn’t know. A lot of them didn’t know. Ninety-five percent didn’t know.

And the fake news did it to me. They only covered the ass part.

They said, they said, this is news, cable freaks. And I think ABC fake news, one of the worst. And they said, what the hell was Trump doing talking about a man’s anatomy? What, what’s his problem? What’s, why is he doing this?

And I explained it. He was talking about his ass and his feet. What was he doing? You know what I was doing, and they know, but they actually had me and they’d only say I studied his ass.

Given his obsession with a man’s ass, it’s obvious there’s only one song the racist, rapist, pedophile conman should stick with:

He’s already got the moves:
