Everyone is obsessed with whether the GOP will have its ass handed to it on Nov. 3. But there is another important race in Louisville that people should focus on.
The local media types say that the race is Democrat vs. Democrat, but the incumbent has shown he’s a Democrat in name only, having open the doors to ICE agents seizing people off the streets and in airports, allowing police abuses to fester and opening the doors to the ultra-rich seeking to impose data centers on people who don’t have the resources to stop the desecration of their neighborhoods.
The better choice, if you care about your neighbors in Louisville is Shameka Parrish-Wright.
The problem is that since the DINO, Craig Greenberg, has wealthy backers, he has a ton of money to use ahead of he election. As Louisville Public Media reported:
Greenberg has continued to fundraise far more than Parrish-Wright. During the reporting period, which covers July through September, campaign finance records show the Democratic mayor raised roughly $460,000. He also rolled over roughly $410,000 in unspent funding from his primary campaign account, giving him a total $869,582.
Parrish-Wright, by comparison, raised about $53,000 during the same period.
In a statement to LPM News Thursday, Parrish-Wright said she wasn’t deterred. In fact, she said she’s encouraged about where her campaign stands.
“This has always been a people-powered campaign and having more individual donations reflects the kind of campaign we are building together, one where everyday people can participate, not only the people who can afford to write the largest checks,” she said.
Parrish-Wright said she won’t ignore the financial disparity, but her view of campaigning is “ultimately about people.”
Her statement refers to the number of donations she received, about 430, compared to Greenberg’s 201. Parrish-Wright’s average donation was $116, while Greenberg’s was $2,200.
Greenberg has rich backers. Parrish-Wright has small donors. The fundraising gap is huge, but when you get money from rich people who expect a return on their investment, the will of the people is ignored.
