Being stupid is no excuse. So don’t excuse stupid people

There’s a scene in the classic Alfred Hitchcock movie “Vertigo” where Barbara Bel Geddes (as Midge) makes fun of Jimmy Stewart’s character’s obsession with a mysterious married woman.

Here’s the clip:

Let’s just say that the painting itself isn’t stupid. Anyone who can paint like that has to be a genius. And the joke Midge tried to pull off isn’t stupid. Cruel, perhaps. Insensitive, definitely. But stupid? Not really, because she immediately saw that what she did was wrong, felt guilty about it and acknowledged it was in bad taste.

Simply put, she felt bad because she realized what she did was cruel. She sees cruelty as a form of stupidity.

Which brings us to the scale of stupidity we see today by a mob of gullible sycophants.

I’ll turn this over to Allen Clifton on Facebook:

I’m just done tolerating “stupid” just because so many people seem to want to live in that world. We have to push back and call these people out for what they are if that’s what they’re willingly choosing to be.

If you believe:

Democrats support “abortion even after the baby is born” — yes, you’re stupid.

Children are going to public school, then being taken to hospitals by their teachers and school administrations to be given transgender surgeries, then being sent home days later, changing from a boy to a girl or vice versa — yes, you’re stupid.

There’s nothing to investigate concerning Ukraine suddenly having its access to Starlink services restricted just before a massive Russian missile attack — yes, you’re stupid.

A Russian oligarch with close ties to the Kremlin and Vladimir Putin gave Donald Trump Jr. hundreds of thousands of dollars for no reason or expecting nothing in return — yes, you’re stupid.

James Talarico is a vegan despite the fact that there are multiple videos of him eating meat — yes, you’re stupid.

In fact, if you actually care if he’s a vegan or not, since that does not matter at all to anything — yes, you’re stupid.

Democrats can rig elections despite the fact that Republicans control the White House, Senate, and House, all power they obtained while Democrats were in power — yes, you’re stupid.

We should change the name of New Mexico to “New America,” or support changing the names of Lake Ontario to “Lake America” and the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America” — yes, you’re stupid.

Donald Trump, a multiple adulterer, fraudster, and con artist who doesn’t display a single trait linked to the teachings of Jesus Christ as cited in the Bible, is a “devout Christian” — yes, you’re stupid.

Prices can decrease by more than 100% — yes, you’re stupid.

The three-year-high inflation we’re dealing with is somehow the fault of Joe Biden — yes, you’re stupid.

Joe Biden was to blame for the rise in gas prices in 2022 following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, a war he had nothing to do with, yet don’t blame Donald Trump for the sky-high gas prices and record-breaking diesel prices we’ve dealt with for most of 2026 due to a war he did start — yes, you’re stupid.

The midterms are going to be rigged even though Republicans currently control everything — yes, you’re stupid.

The failure of the surface material at the Reflecting Pool was due to vandalism, even though the DOJ, the contractor, and an independent study all said it was due to installation issues and a rushed schedule to get the project done prior to Trump’s birthday — yes, you’re stupid.

That any election that doesn’t go Trump’s way is “rigged,” even after a decade of a predictable pattern by a con artist of this president claiming that any elections that don’t go his way are “rigged,” while all the ones that do are “totally legitimate” — yes, you’re stupid.

That the economy is currently “the best ever” and that we’re “in a new golden age,” even though nearly every major economic metric is worse now than when Trump took office — yes, you’re stupid.

A ballroom is a “matter of national security” — yes, you’re stupid.

An arch is going to be built to house snipers and drones at a location that’s not strategically significant for the need for either — yes, you’re stupid.

That there’s nothing unethical or corrupt at all about Trump’s net worth increasing by over $2 billion during his first year in office — yes, you’re stupid.

There’s nothing wrong or unethical with the president’s former personal lawyer being the current attorney general, while also speaking at political rallies and serving as a fill-in White House press secretary to parrot and defend this administration’s propaganda — yes, you’re stupid.

That there’s not an ongoing cover-up of the Epstein files that Trump continues to call a “hoax,” files where his name appears more than anyone else’s other than Jeffrey Epstein’s — yes, you’re stupid.

That there’s clearly not something driving Trump’s devotion to Vladimir Putin, the one individual he’s spent a decade refusing to criticize or attack in any way, and goes out of his way to basically do everything to suck up to him and be more favorable to Russian interests — yes, you’re stupid.

The list goes on and on.

I’m done with it.

I never like to call people stupid, but I’m also sick of the rest of us having to sit there and act like we’re all supposed to treat all of this like it’s normal and “just a matter of opinion” because there are millions of people who choose to be willfully ignorant and believe in pure delusions and utter nonsense.

I’m not putting up with that crap anymore.

If you’re someone who believes all the stuff I just listed above, then I’m sorry to say — but you’re stupid.

And if that offends you, too damn bad.

Be better.

I think he’s being kind to people who believe these things. They’re not only being stupid. They’re also evil. They’re also gullible. They’re also hateful. They’re also a danger to this country.

What gets me is that everyone who voted for the corrupt, racist, rapist, pedophile Orange conman, was alive during his first term as president when he solidified his standing as the worst president in American history. They saw the unemployment rate skyrocket. They watched as at least a half million Americans died because of his incompetent handling of the Covid crisis. They experienced the degradation of America’s standing as a world leader. Yet they went to the polls in 2024 and said “Me vote for rapist, pedophile conman instead of Black woman who put rapist, pedophile conmen in jail because BLACK BLACK BLACK BLACK BLACK!!!.”

That’s a whole new category of stupid. Or as another movie icon said:

I’ll add one more item to Allen’s list.

If you believe everything you hear on Fox News — yes, you’re stupid.

And stupid extends to the media morons who either fawn before their Orange Jesus and swallow whole every MAGA GOP talking point.

Like this correspondent for CBS News:

CBS News chief legal correspondent Jan Crawford has apologized after publicly praising a man who confronted Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed about the Muslim Brotherhood, despite El-Sayed immediately disavowing the group.

The man, who introduced himself as “Tommy,” questioned El-Sayed’s allegiances. Crawford thanked him on X and mocked the candidate’s response as a “spectacular self own.” El-Sayed had challenged the implication that his Muslim faith made his loyalty suspect, comparing it to the religious prejudice John F. Kennedy faced as a Catholic.

Crawford deleted her post Sunday, admitting it violated CBS News standards. And here’s an interesting development. The Guardian has identified “Tommy” as Thomas Teepell, a former aide to Republican Senator Josh Hawley.

The controversy comes just as Semafor reports that CBS editor in chief Bari Weiss has been directing newsroom resources toward investigating unsubstantiated allegations about El-Sayed’s supposed Muslim Brotherhood connections.

For a network already facing questions about its political independence, having its chief legal correspondent publicly cheer on a Republican operative’s attack on a Democratic candidate is quite a look.
