Kentucky GOP rep protects billionaire instead of his constituents

So Republican James (Never met a conspiracy theory I didn’t like) Comer has decided it’s more important to protect Elon Musk, the world richest man (with a net worth of $486 BILLION!!!), over his constituents, who, last I checked, had a median household income of $54,615.

From the Herald Leader in Lexington:

Rep. James Comer quashed a motion by Democrats in the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday to subpoena billionaire tech mogul Elon Musk to answer questions about his unprecedented role in shrinking the U.S. government. Republicans defeated the motion 20-19 on a party-line vote in which members squabbled over each other about Musk and proper decorum on the committee.

When you represent a district in which about a third of residents rely on Medicaid, 45,000 homes receive federal food assistance and 26,000 elderly and disabled require Supplemental Security Income (among other programs), how is your first thought: “I really need to protect this South African apartheid-raised space Nazi who wants to take all of these things away from the people who gave me this job.”

Comey is bought and paid for, just like the entire Republican Party. And Musk is their ATM.

At the beginning of 2024, Musk’s net worth was $213 billion. In the last election cycle, he spent $250 million on behalf of the Republican Party. At the end of the year, he was worth $442 billion.

Let’s do the math: Musk spent just over one tenth of one percent of his wealth to put MAGA in power and now is pillaging the U.S. economy for his own personal gain (fuck that, he’s already gained that and more). His fortune has doubled.

If a family in the first congressional district with an annual income of $54,000 shelled out about $65 to put Comey in office (which mathematically is the rate Musk spent), their income didn’t double to over $100,000 as a result of his election.

(By the way, Comey’s net worth is about $15 million. Truly a man of the people.)
