Poverty, thy cause is Hal Rogers

The map at the top of this post says it all. The purple doesn’t signifying the political climate is a mix of red and blue. It shows counties where at least 20 percent of the population lives in poverty.

So, let’s focus on Eastern Kentucky, where there is a major saturation of purple. That’s the 5th congressional district, and its representative in Washington is Harold Rogers. So, what has Rogers done for his voters?

Let’s hear from his Democratic opponent in this year’s midterm elections, Ned Pillersdorf:

88 year old Hal Rogers whose fifth congressional district in Kentucky is now ranked as the poorest in the nation has accumulated a voting record that is designed to keep us last.

Rogers cast the deciding vote for the big ugly bill that slashed almost a trillion dollars from Medicaid.

When the Democrats tried to increase funding for low income schools- not only did Rogers vote no- he voted to cut funding for low income schools by 26%.

The voters in the area of Kentucky colored in purple have a chance to allow me to go to Washington and not only undo the damage that Rogers and the Republicans have done- but to restore and improve programs designed to help the less fortunate.

Note that Pillersdorf mentions what Rogers voted against. What he fails to mention is Rogers did this, even though he was extremely vocal about the evils of “socialism” (a word Hal obviously doesn’t understand) when his vote failed to stop the funding he railed against:

Just to emphasize. He did this!

And whom does he feature prominently on his campaign website?

Summing it up. Rogers avidly supports a racist, sexist, corrupt, rapist, pedophile conman. He represents the poorest congressional districts in one of the poorest states in America. And Rogers is against getting crucial funding for his district. Why does he not care?

Look at that! The bulk of Rogers fortune comes from a company that isn’t even based in the U.S.

Hal Rogers doesn’t care about the people of Eastern Kentucky. His campaign slogan should be: “I got mine. Y’all can just fuck off.”

If he’s reelected, the voters in Eastern Kentucky will have to blame themselves for their poverty.
