A note on the World Cup

I’m wearing my Belgian National Team football jersey for today’s World Cup match with the U.S., because a certain Orange Cretin has joined forces with FIFA, generally known as a corrupt institution, to cheat in a the world’s largest sporting event.

Here are a few views from abroad:

OK. The world hates us already because of all the damage the most corrupt president in American history has inflicted on the planet, but this is combined with the world’s most corrupt sports governing body (better luck next time NCAA). FIFA’s lack of integrity has been known for years.

Here’s a view from the 2010s:

The angry Brits at the top of this post are just a smattering of the global outrage over this FIFA decision.

Folarin Balogun is the top scorer for the U.S. He’s also the child of immigrants, who would have lost his American citizenship had Donald Trump’s desire to persecute the children of immigrants not been struck down by the Supreme Court recently in a 5-4 vote.

in this year’s World Cup, and he received a red card for this:

Red cards are given for fouls that could result in serious injury, and when you look at the video above, that move could have resulted in a broken ankle for the opposing player (which when you think about it is much more serious than being suspended for one game).

But red cards are also given for the most trivial of matters, like this:

So covering your mouth is grounds for throwing a person out of a match and a subsequent game, but going for an ankle breaker is acceptable?

This is beyond dealing with a corrupt despot. This is a reflection on the integrity of Americans. In Trump’s America, rules are for suckers. Let’s not even get into the fact that the Orange rapist ignores laws like they’re ex-wives. Something as “minor” as sports rules aren’t going to stop him from sticking his nose in something that doesn’t concern him.

And let’s not forget, whatever Trump touches turns to shit. The 250th anniversary of our country was a letdown, because the Orange Menace fucked up the celebration by giving contracts to cronies. He’s desecrated the White House. Let’s not even get into the failed 250th U.S. anniversary events that cluttered the Mall in D.C., or the desecration of the reflecting pool.

Not only that: Does anyone in their right mind think Donald Trump understands soccer. Does he know anything about sports, other than imposing himself in these events because they get more attention that he does. Remember, he went to the one NBA Championship game the Knicks lost during the finals, and New Yorkers knew that the correct response to his presence was to boo.

It’s also a distraction from all the damage this administration has inflicted on the country since millions of ignorant voters put it into office.

So the World Cup is tarnished. Even more than is normally would have been given FIFA’s corruption.
