The UPS jet crash in Louisville: an update

We check out Captain Steeeve’s YouTube channel pretty frequently to find out what horrors are going on in the sky.

This video, on the United Parcel Service jet crash in Louisville last Nov. 4 that left 15 people dead, including a 3-year-old girl, is a horrifying example of corporate and government incompetence (and perhaps greed):

I talked with a FedEx mechanic based in Memphis soon after the crash and was told FedEx had known about the problem for years and had taken those planes out of service long before this crash occurred. As Captain Steeeve notes, FedEx performed admirably, reporting the issue multiple times to Boeing and to the FAA, but no action was taken by the people responsible for this crash.

UPS knew.

Boeing knew.

The FAA knew.

So why wasn’t any action taken?

Maybe because in 2024, UPS donated $4.3 million to political campaigns and spent another $6.2 million in lobbying fees.

Maybe because in 2024, Boeing donated $5.8 million to political campaigns and spent another $11.9 million in lobbying fees.

These corporations have bought and own politicians to ensure federal regulators turn a blind eye to reported safety issues.

The Louisville airport is three-and-a-half miles from my house. Here’s my nightmare: Had the plane taken off from another runway and gained a little altitude before the engine separated, the jet would have been headed straight for my front door.

Fifteen people died, including the three-year-old and her grandfather, who were on the ground, because UPS and Boeing cared more about profit than safety.

And they died because government regulators didn’t even say: “Keep those damn planes in the hangar.”
