It’s no secret that we have constantly criticized local media for their lack of understanding of the dangers this country faces because of the Orange Menace and his ICE goons. But this recent story from WDRB manages to submarine below what was already a low bar:
In Louisville, a candlelight prayer vigil was held at Joe Creason Park to honor Renee Good, who was shot and killed by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer, and Alex Pretti, who was killed Saturday by Border Patrol officers.
But the vigil turned tense when a small group of counterprotesters showed up — and quickly found themselves in heated exchanges with attendees over immigration.
About four or five counterprotesters stood on the edge of the circle throughout the event, occasionally engaging with those gathered in prayer and song.
Several problems:
1: How many people were at the overall demonstration? We know there were “four or five counterprotesters,” but the incompetent reporter at WDRB never says how many people were at the vigil to honor the memory of the people murdered by ICE. Were there “four or five people” protesting ICE, which would justify the “both sides” narrative the story is desperately trying to convey? Or were there tens, or hundreds or thousands of people protesting the government sanctioned murders, which would make the “counterprotestors” pimples on the ass of progress. We don’t know, because WDRB has failed us.
2: Our Democratic congressman showed up and offered some mealy mouthed words of “why can’t we just all get along.” Actually, what he did was quote the Declaration of Independence: “Inalienable rights endowed upon them by their creator — among them life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness,” [Morgan] McGarvey, D-Louisvile, said. “To protect those, we would have a government of, by, and for the people.” No coverage on whether he even used the words “Donald Trump,” even though we get the feeling he’s desperately trying to stay in the middle of the road when the rest of the country is being driven off a cliff. And there’s not even a reference that he has been complicit in the right wing mindfuck that’s taken place, since we have to remind him that, in his congressional capacity, he supported honoring the memory of the racist Charlie Kirk, who was killed by a MAGA moron, even though the fascists continue to lie that it was a left-wing conspiracy.
3: They fucking spell Louisville wrong in the McGarvey reference. If, as a journalist, you can’t even spell the city you live in correctly, it’s time to leave the profession.
4: And just to be clear, here’s who the counterprotesters support:
