Michael Moore: What went down won’t go up!

The director of the documentaries “Roger and Me” and “Bowling for Columbine” has a few things to say about the symbolism of escalators:

When the escalator at the United Nations came to a wrenching and sudden stop this past Tuesday as soon as Trump stepped on it, I would like to believe that future historians will record that as the pivotal, split-second moment which marked the beginning of the end of the Trump Reign of Terror.

A Terror that began — and ended — on an escalator.

June 16, 2015, at Trump Tower — to September 23, 2025, at the United Nations.

When the escalator at the UN came to that sudden and unexpected halt, was that the sign we had been waiting for? The escalator! Is it possible that the escalator’s complete loss of power, its instant paralyzation, its seemingly abrupt and total collapse meant that this too was the end of the Reign of Donald J. Trump?

I don’t know. That seems like a lot of wishful thinking. The thing that shocked me most about ‘Escalator-gate” was what no one is talking about. Look at this:

Are you kidding me? The escalator stopped. The one on the right is still running. These people were too stupid to back up, take a couple of steps to the right and use the moving escalator?

Those of us who live in places with escalators (like in Louisville or all of Kentucky, or all of the world, for example) know that if an escalator stops when we’re at the bottom, we take a couple of steps over and use the one that works.

The fact that this became an international incident, with the White House press secretary going “full Karen” and demanding heads roll, shows the utter incompetence of this administration. An authoritarian regime that can’t even make the escalators run on time.

What kind of lamebrain gets all pissy over something so insignificant? And why do corporate media folks blow this stupidity up out of proportion when the administration is doing all it can to destroy the country, kill its citizens and grift its way to a billionaire haven?

And while I’m thinking about it, why doesn’t Michael Moore run for office, if he cares so much about the country? He has widespread name recognition. He offers pointed, accurate criticism of the ruling class. He commands solid progressive credentials. And he’s rich (a net worth of $30 million), but nowhere near billionaire status, so he’s not struggling but at the same time not beholden to any lobbyist cash (why he’s asking for subscribers at $5 a pop is beyond our little blog site that’s totally free to anyone who wants to read it).
