Republicans in disarray

Since Mitch McConnell has chosen not to seek another term in the U.S. Senate, Kentucky GOP hopefuls are in the early stages of turning their knives on each other.

From the Courier Journal:

The race among Kentucky Republicans to replace Sen. Mitch McConnell in the nation’s Capitol got heated in a hurry.

Minutes after McConnell, a U.S. Senate institution in office since 1985, announced he plans to retire at the end of his current term, former Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron said he’s entering the race. Within days, Cameron and two likely rivals in the run to take the seat had kickstarted a war of words over an election more than 20 months away.

Western Kentucky University politics professor Jeffrey Budziak is “a little surprised that it got this heated this quickly.” But potential candidates have good reason to move fast to stake their place in the race, he said.

“Senate seats don’t come around very often,” Budziak said. “They’re going to try to make out their lane.”

Unfortunately, in 20 months, elections could be irrelevant if the reality show circus clown and the illegal alien, South African apartheid era space Nazi have their way. But, hopefully, the GOP backstabbing will at least provide some entertainment.

Then-Attorney General Daniel Cameron smiles at a campaign stop during his gubernatorial campaign in 2023.

But before we get to that point, does Cameron really think he has a chance of getting a D.C. endorsement? I mean, isn’t MAGA in the midst of its anti-DEI frenzy, and doesn’t Cameron have a complexion that activates their rabies? And since it’s likely Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear will seek the Democratic nomination, a Cameron nomination would provide a perfect example of the “definition of insanity.”
