Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair once said: “The first rule in politics is that there are no rules, at least not in the sense of inevitable defeats or inevitable victories.”
We tend to disagree. The first rule of politics, if you want to understand why politicians do what they do, is “follow the money.” Policy positions are determined by who is providing campaign funding.
So, Kentucky’s Democratic governor, Andy Beshear, should keep this in mind:
“The Senate is in desperate need of Beshear’s leadership and strong commitment to fair and honest and caring democracy,” Christina Lee Brown, a Louisville philanthropist and heavyweight political donor who helped Beshear raise more than $1 million during his 2023 gubernatorial campaign, told The Courier Journal. “He certainly has those talents as he has beautifully exerted throughout all the various times we have had in Kentucky.”
Brown, one of Kentucky’s wealthiest donors who also co-authored a Courier Journal op-ed urging Beshear to run, thinks Beshear is the best option to turn the tide, and she knows she’s not alone. With the filing deadline about four months away, she said now is the time to speak out.
“I think it’s time for people who care deeply about the state of Kentucky and care deeply about Gov. Beshear’s future … for us to all to chime in and speak up and share our thoughts,” Brown said.
As we’ve stated on our podcast, Beshear should put his presidential ambitions on the back burner and go for McConnell’s Senate seat. He is the best Democrat available to win a statewide race, because he’s done it before. Otherwise, we’ll get a Republican MAGA idiot in the Senate, because MAGAts in this state will always vote against their interest because it gives them the satisfaction of beating up on the defenseless groups they hate.
We don’t have the millions of dollars needed to get a politician to listen to us when they’re seeking higher office.
But Brown, pictured at the top, does. She did this before the last presidential election:
One of Kentucky’s wealthiest Democratic givers is joining the ranks of party mega-donors across the country who are pleading for President Joe Biden to step aside as the nominee in the 2024 election.
Philanthropist Christy Brown said she has long admired the 81-year-old incumbent, who has for weeks been resisting calls from within his party to quit the race.
Biden quit the race (which by the way was a bad idea), and now the incontinent senile orange TACO is looting the country, making his family and the rich richer and ensuring his MAGAt supporters are worse off than they would have been if a Democrat had won the last election. But MAGAts are racist and sexist and would rather lose all their money and die than vote for a black woman.
Which is what’s happening to them.
Andy has plenty of time to run for president. He’s 47 years old. If he wins a Senate seat, he could run for president at 55 and still be considered a young president. The average age for a president first taking office is 56. TACO is 20 years older than that. There is no down side to Beshear running for the U.S. Senate.
Speaking of downsides, if a Republican wins the Senate race, he’ll drive us over a cliff (and I say “he’ll” because there’s no way in hell MAGAts will elect a woman).
