Two annoying stories in the local paper today that should be simple reader service but are problematic in their lack of information.
The first has this headline, Tom Jurich, ex-University of Louisville AD, has stretch of Floyd Street named after him, and says:
A portion of Floyd Street that runs through the University of Louisville‘s campus has been renamed Tom Jurich Way in honor of the former athletics director, the mayor’s office and U of L announced Saturday.
Problem is this story doesn’t say what portion of Floyd Street is affected. We’re guessing it’s the part that extends from East Brandeis Avenue, where the softball stadium is located, to Central Avenue, the location of the football stadium, but the CJ doesn’t give us the boundaries or even tell us all of the athletic facilities along the way: softball stadium, volleyball arena, track and field facility, field hockey pitch (which is across the street from the tennis center), natatorium (fancy word for swimming pool), athletes’ dorm, basketball facility, lacrosse field, soccer stadium and football stadium), so we don’t know if it’s that whole stretch of Floyd Street or just part of it. This is basic reporting. And is it that hard to just provide a map of where this is going to be?
The second has this headline: ‘Wake, brew, slay:’ Meet a new Louisville coffee company that’s ‘unapologetically gay’.
A basic cute story about a new coffee seller that says:
You can find YAS Queen Beans from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturdays at the Old Louisville Farmers Market, 251 W. Ormsby Ave., and from noon to 4 p.m. Sundays at the farmers market at Rainbow Blossom, 3738 Lexington Road.
Only, you can’t find it at the Old Louisville Farmers Market every Saturday because the Farmers Market operates EVERY OTHER Saturday.
This is very simple information that doesn’t take much work to gather, but it seems the CJ has no editors to point these things out and the reporters don’t know what they’re supposed to include in their writing.
