Musical Interlude: Glenna

Met you in eastern France,

You asked if I could dance.

I was clumsy and just gave a shrug.

Our group toured Geneva.

Was it New Year’s Eve, huh?

When the clock struck 12 you gave me a hug.

Glenna, I’ve missed you!

Glenna, I thought you were a winner.

Glenna, I wished you had been mine.

I was 19,

You were a prom queen.

I don’t know why

You were so kind.

Glenna, I’ve missed you.

I never kissed you.

Lived in Dijon.

What’s this Grey Poupon?

College classes were all in French.

I was lonely

and also homely.

Rain would pass you, I just got drenched.

Glenna I’ve missed you.

I never kissed you.

Foreign exchange was a pain

But the franc was beautiful.

Remember Paris how it glowed at night?

Riding the boat on the Seine

Was a win for everyone.

City of love

But the time wasn’t right.

I was from New York

And just a huge dork.

You’re from Ohio

Bubbling with charm.

You were so pretty

Just like the city.

I wish I could have

Taken your arm.

We took a side trip

To Beaune out in wine country.

After some drinks

I was moved by your smile.

I stayed a term

And I learned about missed chances.

You stayed the year

But you always had style.

That was years ago

Oh, wow, how time’s flown.

Over the years I’ve

Traveled the world.

I now have a wife.

We’ve had a good life.

Now have some grandkids,

It’s been a whirl.

Still I remember

France in September.

This sounds sappy

Have you been happy?

It’s a thought that

Has crossed my mind.

You made me see

How shyness hurt me.

I just want to end with this line:

Glenna I hope that you’re fine.
