A CAREFUL READING OF THE TEA LEAVES now indicates – via a Courier-Journal story – that the University of Louisville Board of Trustees had sufficient evidence to terminate (fire in common parlance) former president Kim Schatzel for cause but gave her the opportunity resign with a $700,000 severance package to possible avoid bad publicity.
Boy, I bet that’s working well among community members, staff, teachers, alumni and assorted taxpayers for a public institution. All class and distinction. SHUSH MONEY. But can’t talk about it. We signed a deal.
U OF L Motto: Dare to be Great
My first thought was that’s the kind of deal normally reserved for basketball and football coaches.
YOU SCREWED UP. YOU SUCK AT YOUR JOB. HERE’S $700,000. PLEASE QUIETLY SKULK AWAY.
Maybe the Board of Trustees should resign, too. No severance pay.
Bob Hill is a former Courier Journal columnist. Someone sent this post to me, because I refuse to go on Facebook, since Mark Zuckerberg has sold us out to the illegal South African alien, ketamine-addicted Space Nazi’s incontinent, senile Orange Chia Pet.
That’s one take on the firing. But really, did she screw up? Did she suck at her job?
Here’s another take.
This is from the Louisville Cardinal, UofL’s independent student newspaper, on Feb. 19, 2024.
University of Louisville President Kim Schatzel issued a statement Monday morning endorsing support of Kentucky college campuses’ diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. She joins Council on Postsecondary Education President Dr. Aaron Thompson.
Her statement comes just five days after the University of Kentucky President Eli Capilouto openly opposed anti-diversity legislation making its way through the Kentucky General Assembly in Frankfort. Kentucky senators have sponsored several bills aimed at curbing DEI policies and other “divisive” concepts endorsed at Kentucky universities.
“I have spent much of the last few weeks on campus and in our community talking with students, staff, faculty, alumni, business and community partners, and legislative leaders about the importance of diversity and inclusion in our classrooms, on our campuses, as well as in corporate and community spaces,” Schatzel said.
Since the MAGA Republican led Kentucky legislature overwhelmingly voted to encourage racism, misogyny, xenophobia and homophobia with its anti DEI legislation, what if Schatzel said the school should challenge this blatant bigotry and not comply with the legislators, who were too racist or stupid to think for themselves and, like trained seals flapping their fins and barking for fish, followed the senile Orange Chia Pet’s incoherent rambling about killer immigrants, sharks, Hannibal Lecter and Black jobs designations? (Oh, and the Space Nazi is a killer immigrant, with his murder-bot cars.)
The cowards on the UofL board of trustees (or opportunists, since some of the board members are real estate developers, and the university has been doing a lot of major construction recently) saw that as cause for firing. The interesting note in Hill’s post is about the payoff to “avoid bad publicity.”
What kind of bad publicity? Oh, maybe, UofL has shown it supports and encourages bigotry, racism, homophobia, xenophobia and misogyny. And while they’re at it, make the school White again.
Sounds pretty much like MAGA pandering, doesn’t it?
But since no one is willing to talk, all we can do is speculate.
